My journey through Scouting has been transformative, and I owe a great deal of that to the incredible community at Troop 161. Joining Scouts after facing significant hardships in my life has been a profound blessing. As someone who was adopted from an orphanage in China and who has undergone numerous medical procedures, including bilateral leg amputations, I appreciate the support and friendship I found within the Troop. Navigating my path to Eagle Scout while using a wheelchair has presented unique challenges, but the guidance of dedicated Scouts and adult leaders made all the difference. They not only helped me overcome obstacles but also encouraged me to embrace my journey and celebrate every achievement along the way. What stands out most are the precious memories created during our time together, which have become invaluable aspects of my Scouting experience. I am especially grateful for the strength I've received from God. The skills I have gained and the values of the Scout Oath and Law will serve as my moral compass for life. Scouting represents so much more than simply achieving the rank of Eagle; it’s about the lasting relationships formed throughout the process. Thank you, Troop 161, for the invaluable values you have imparted to me!

The Scouting program has meant the world to me. Troop 161 provided me with a community of individuals who all supported me as I actively learned and engaged in new activities and adventures. Scouting has created a foundation for me to use for the rest of my life as I will continue to strive to live by the Scout Oath and Law. Earning the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout has opened a few doors for me in the last year and I am excited to continue learning and growing. I could argue, nothing has impacted my life more positively than Scouting. My time in the Troop taught me so much including wilderness survival, citizenship, camping, and leadership. But the most important thing I learned is that I can do hard things, I can get out of my comfort zone and excel at things I would not have expected to. It is a lot easier to challenge yourself when you have an army of supporters around you and the Troop provided that for me. I will be forever grateful to the leaders and members of Troop 161. I plan to continue to be an active part of my community and be a good role model for those younger than myself. A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.

I’ve been in Scouts since I was 6 years old and have worked my way up through the ranks of Cub Scouts all the way to Eagle. One of my favorite things about Scouting is all the friends that I’ve made along the way, many of which I’m still friends with. The adults in our Troop have also influenced me a lot; they have helped shape me into who I am and helped prepare me for the future. I’ve learned a lot about responsibility and leadership as well as how to take charge and learned how to keep my cool In potentially overwhelming situations. I have a lot of inspiration from previous Eagle Scouts from our Troop and have used what they taught me to get to where I am. All the skills I’ve learned at Scouts I’m going to use in the future. I hope that the next generations will take the opportunity to join Scouts and learn about things such as leadership. I couldn’t be more thankful for our Troop and how they’ve impacted my life.

My time in scouting has had a profound effect on my life. Bearing the honor of being an Eagle Scout has opened doors and opportunities in my personal and professional life. The leadership training I received was essential in understanding how I can make a difference in society and for those around me. There is no organization like Scouting that can create bonds amongst youth that can last a lifetime. I owe Scouting for who I am and for introducing me to fellow Scouts that have become cherished friendships. The values taught in Scouting are meant to inspire and instill good merit in our future and present world leaders. I am excited to see the continued growth of Scouting and Troop 161.

I'm an Eagle Scout from Troop 161 in Sturbridge. Having come into contact with several different troops over the years, there is something truly special about our Sturbridge Troop. Scouting, but particularly my experience in Troop 161, has taught me so much about life, citizenship, and community involvement and support. The leadership of 161 throughout the years has shown dedication to raising strong men through the Scouting program, offering experiences that far surpass the value of even college education, let alone other youth programs.
Troop 161 has and will continue to be my home troop, and I look forward to decades to come as we continue to equip young men and boys to meet the demands of an ever-changing world.
